The castor bean bush grows across Europe, where it can reach 1-4 meters in height. In tropical Africa, where the plant originated, it can reach heights of 12-13 meters. The use of castor bean can be traced to 4,000 BC where, in ancient Egypt, the seed oil was used to condition hair, lashes and nails. Castor seeds were considered precious, and have been found in ancient tombs.
