Marsh samphire is endemic to North America, Europe, South Africa and South Asia. Found on every shoreline in Europe, marsh samphire thrives in hostile coastal conditions. It is not an alga but a halophilic plant. In fact, so strong is its ability to adapt to salt, it can be immersed in seawater during high tides. During this process, it becomes saturated with freshwater and maintains its hydration through complex cellular mechanisms mobilizing multiple minerals.
